Summer is here (allegedly) and the school holidays are a mere two weeks away. How that is even possible, I do not know. This year is absolutely flying by!
As I’m on maternity leave, I will have the whole summer at home with my children – something that has never happened before sadly! I’m sure that by the end of the six weeks I will be pulling my hair out and counting down the days until my little tween darling will be taking his eye-rolling back to school but for now I am going to bask in the warm, filtered glow of the thought of six full weeks with my babies.
Here’s what we have planned:
Holiday to Tenerife
Summer is kicking off with a flight to Tenerife and Sophie’s first ever holiday abroad. Sadly, Zak isn’t able to join us for this one as he will be going to see his Dad but we have lots of other things planned for when he returns home. Holidays abroad with a baby always pose certain challenges but with some organisation (eek – I’d better make a start!) and preparation, I know we will have a lovely
relaxing week in the sun
Create A Garden Allotment
We are in the process of completely redoing our back garden and with a bit of luck it should be habitable within the next few weeks. We have two massive planters ready and waiting to be filled and I’m really looking forward to turning them into our own mini allotment space. I’m not the most green-fingered person but I love the idea of teaching Zak how to grow our own fruit and veg. It can’t be that hard, right?!
St Anne’s Kite Festival
Every summer for one weekend, the skies above the Fylde Coast come alive with colour with the most amazing kite displays in the annual kite festival. There is also music, food stalls, dancing and loads to see and do down at the beach front (which by the way is absolutely stunning). Every year I miss it but not this year – if the sun is out then we are definitely going to head down to enjoy the experience. I know that Zak will love it and hopefully Sophie will enjoy all the bright colours too.
This is becoming an annual summer tradition. It’s a good hour and a half drive from where we live so it’s not a place that we get to visit often. Each time we return, Chester Zoo is bigger and better than before. With over 20,000 animals spread across 125 acres there is just so much to see and do. I’m especially looking forward to seeing their latest feature called The Islands. Chester Zoo has recreated the environments of six South East Asian islands and it is supposed to be something really incredible. Anyway, you can’t really go wrong with a day at the zoo can you!
Lake District Mini-Break
We are heading up to the family static caravan for a few days in August to take in the delights of the Lake District. The Lake District is only one hour away and we try to nip up there as much as possible for days out and weekend breaks. This year I am taking my sister and my three year old niece with us. I’m really looking forward to seeing the natural beauty of it through the eyes of little people again.
I’ve never really been camping and to be honest I’m not about to start with a baby under the age of one. However, we will be pitching a tent in the back garden and having our own mini festival / camping party for the kids this summer to celebrate the opening of our new garden (should it ever be finished!) I’m thinking games, bbq, cooking smores round the fire pit and camping under the stars. You never know, we might even be able to persuade the older three to be parted from their beloved WIFI. Then again that’s probably wishful thinking. I know they will love this activity either way.
Holiday to France
Mr S and I are taking all four of the kids off to the South of France at the end of August for a week on a Eurocamp resort. We have done this type of holiday before with Haven (which you can read about here) and we loved it. This time we are venturing a bit further afield in the quest for guaranteed sunshine but we have high hopes. The resort is situated right on the beach and is jam packed with activities for all ages so fingers crossed we can keep all four children relatively happy. Mr S and I may need a holiday to recover though!
That is the extent of my planning for now – there is a lot to be said for a lazy day at home with movies and popcorn after all. If you would like to keep up with us this summer then I will be vlogging our adventures for my YouTube channel so head on over and subscribe.
I’d love to hear what you have planned for the summer so drop me a line in the comments box below.
