This is a post for you if you have a blog and you what to know what is a Linky and how on earth you use one. No time for cuppa with this post – let’s just get straight to the point hey?
What is a Linky?
A Linky is a Link Up Party on a host blog. In order to avoid confusion I will use myself and my own Linky as an example. It’s called For the love of BLOG.
So, I am the host blogger. I use a tool called inLinkz to create a blog page that allows you to link up your posts to my page.
Some Linky’s may have a specific theme – my Linky doesn’t.
The Linky will be open to add your posts at set dates and times. For example my Linky runs every week on a Saturday 08:00 – Monday 22:00.
You can view all of the blog posts that have been linked up on my one page.
It looks like this when people have linked up…
Why Do People Have Linky’s?
The idea is that you share your blog posts and in return you read and comment on a few other people’s. They then do the same with your blog. So it can be a good way of increasing your blog traffic and/or finding new blogs to read.
When I first started out I was taking part in about 15 different Linky’s a week just to get my name out there.
How Do I Join In?
Click the ‘add link’ button on the bottom of the host blog’s Linky page.
Insert your URL into the appropriate fields, including an image and your blog name (not your actual name).
What Are The Rules?
Each Linky is slightly different but in my experience they all ask the following:
Add the host’s badge to your blog post. Let’s use my badge on For the love of BLOG as an example. It looks like this…
- Copy the text code.
- Paste the code into the Text / HTML tab on your blog post. It’s in the top right corner of your post when you are editing it.
After you have added the badge it is a good idea to send a tweet with the post you have linked up to the Linky host/s and use the hashtag that they have created for their Linky. For example #fortheloveofBLOG.
Read and leave a comment on the post that the host has linked up and a however many more they have asked for in the rules.
And that’s it!
If you are new to it all then I hope that has helped and of course I’d love to see you each week on For the love of BLOG!
Any questions then just ask – don’t be shy!
