Post-workout is, lets face it, my favourite part of a workout. I get to lie down and I get to eat something to refuel. Winning all round.
I’ve been working hard at the gym 3-5 times a week for the past three weeks and I have to say I am really pleased with the results that I’m seeing. I’ve talked a bit about my love/hate affair with my body so I won’t go into that here but suffice to say that it’s a long, old journey. I have however, surprised myself by finding out that the snickers eating, sofa-loving girl that I thought I was has been sweated away and in her place I’ve found a healthier, dare I say it, more motivated, still slightly too plump girl. This exercise thing is actually addictive even if the doctor does think that my quads are the weakest I’ve ever seen. Yes well..moving on then…
Part of my journey (is anyone else wanting to slap me for over use of that word?!) is learning about nutrition and how to fuel my body properly, particularly post-workout. No more fad diets for me!
If Pinterest quotes are to be believed and “sweat is actually my fat crying” (who comes up with this stuff?!) then apparently what my body needs is a healthy refuel soon after a workout to soothe those aches and pains. My gym instructor tells me that I need something with carbs and protein during the hour after a workout and apparently a cheeseburger isn’t acceptable. Boo.
I work out first thing after the morning school run, which makes it mid-morning by the time I am ready to refuel. I’m usually pretty busy running round after Sophie and so I need something quick and easy to put in my belly. Smoothie’s are pretty perfect and as the lovely people over at Simply Health sent me LifeBox of goodies, I thought I’d combine some of the ingredients to make a healthy, post-workout snack/drink thing.
So here it is;
The Perfect Post-Workout Protein Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 cup of spinach
- 1 banana
- 1 serving Chocolate PhD woman natural protein
- 1 tbsp of Ibiza Superfoods Detox Mix
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 1 tsp of cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ginger
- 1 cup of almond milk (or any milk you like)
Instructions
Add all ingredients to smoothie maker / blender and whizz until smooth. Add ice to serve if you like and enjoy!
I have to say, that had I not received one of these Life Boxes to try out, then I probably would never have heard of some of the incredible things that are available to boost your health and nutrition. I particularly love the natural protein powder – it’s chocolate flavoured (amazing), dairy, gluten and sugar free. The best part of all is it tastes sooo good. When it’s combined with the peanut butter in my smoothie recipe it is almost in the goodness realm of a snickers. Almost 😉
Lifebox have a motto:
Eat Mindfully, Live Vibrantly & GLOW like a superhero
I just love that quote, don’t you? It sums up everything that I am trying to achieve with my new healthier lifestyle. It’s also a really lovely image to leave you with at the end of this post.
If you try out my Perfect, Post-Workout, Protein smoothie then do let me know what you think! I’d love you to join me on my fitness overhaul.
Until next time lovelies

Oh sounds so good – can you get that protein powder from any high street shops do you know? I’m always after a post spinning or swimming snack that isn’t jam on toast!
I am currently sitting here eating jam on toast X

Anything that involves healthy eating without the faff of cooling veggies always gets my vote! I’ve recently started working out after having my second baby and time limitations, as well as sleep deprivation (I’m still doing two feeds a night at 5 months) is what normally knocks me off track. At least with the right nutrition, that would be a step in the right direction. #fortheloveofBLOG

I need to try this smoothie, I just started going to the gym for the first time 2 days ago and my whole body hurts 🙁 but after hearing that you love the result you’re seeing I will continue because I also have a love hate relationship with my body post baby.
Thanks for sharing your recipe #fortheloveofBLOG
Wow this sounds and looks really interesting . Keep up the good work it will all be worth it #fortheloveofBLOG
You are doing amazingly with your exercise routines. You looked fabulous at the BlogonMSI conference.. Our girls clubbed together and bought a blender thingy from Aldi and are into fruit smoothies…Its costing a small fortune…I think they are getting their 20 a day, never mind their 5 a day! Glad you are being sensible about getting into shape (even though I think you always look so photogenic in pictures and real life!) #fortheloveofblog

This sounds worth a try. I always come back after a workout desperate for something and mashed avocado or scrambled egg is getting a bit boring. Will give this a go. Think my eldest might be interested too – he is permanently on the look out for a good protein shake. Thanks for sharing. #fortheloveofBLOG

Sounds totally delicious! Although I’e got to say I’ve never seen the point in protein powder unless you’re a body builder. You can get protein from so many delicious sources and the smoothie will be just as yummy without it. Maybe I just never work out hard enough to need it, LOL. #fortheloveofBLOG

I will be honest, I’m not a smoothie person – it’s all too much of a faff for me. But hey I could be convinced! Me I’m more of a runner, swimmer and may venture in to a bit of yoga.
Three to five times down the gym wow! You must be looking pretty amazing! Hope you’re cross training to look after those quads!
I love smoothies and my nutribullet is in almost daily use but I’ve not tried the chocolate protein powder, that sounds awesome! Willing to try anything that will make me ‘glow like a superhero!’ Lovely post, good luck with the exercise routine, it’s definitely the best way to stay fit and healthy, I think.
