One of the many things that I love about Autumn / WinterFor is the fashion. Cosy knits, chunky layers, pom-pom hats, winter boots, the plummy colours and so much more. I often spend many happy hours browsing online for new outfits as the nights draw in. I think we are probably all guilty of that!
Before I continue with this post I must add that I am in no way suggesting that I am any kind of fashionista. If you were hoping for some tips on the latest trends or how to wear metallics then this is not the place for you. Mummy style is where its at for me and I’m completely ok with that. I’m busy and I need my clothes to be both functional and comfortable but I do not need them to be boring. I do not want to be the slummy mummy at the school gates or the woman hiding in the supermarket aisle from someone she used to work with because her hair hasn’t been brushed in two days and she is wearing her husband’s old jumper
anymore. Ahem, yes well…with that in mind, this Autumn/Winter, I thought I would share with you a few looks that I am putting together from my favourite high street stores to ensure that the above situation never happens again.
First up is this cosy ensemble from Oasis. I’m a massive fan of Oasis. Their clothes just seem to have been made for women with my body shape – they fundamentally just get me. Ok, they don’t actually know me but what I mean is they are cut in a really flattering way. They also wash really well, which is on the important side of things when you are in possession of a baby-led weaning, spoon wielding tyrant. The coat is what really drew me to put this outfit together for Autumn / Winter. You can’t beat a good coat and this one is a lovely classic cut, I’m in love with all things grey (the best of all the neutrals in my opinion) it looks so warm and inviting and I just want to put it on right now. The grey Chelsea boots and plum coloured bag are also a bit of a treat. You cannot beat a good Chelsea boot. Sadly, I have so many that I don’t think I will be able to justify buying these little beauties. If you are in the market for such things though, you can find the whole outfit online at the Oasis website.
Next on my go-to list of high street stores is Dorothy Perkins. I think we have probably established that I am not and never will be a Topshop girl. I love Dotty P’s and I’m not ashamed to say it. If you need persuading then just look at how adorable this mini skirt / braces / dress combo is. Don’t worry, I’m pairing it with thicker than thick wooly burgundy tights – just another of the joys of the Autumn / Winter fashions. I did actually buy this pom pom hat too and it’s really lovely. I can’t wait for the weather to turn a bit cooler so I can justify wearing it all.
For me, it wouldn’t be Autumn / Winter fashion without a little splurge in Joules. I really ought to have featured a pair of their beautiful wellies here but my Chelsea boot obsession got the best of me and I had to show you these black beauties. Probably not the cheapest boots on the high street, retailing in at £130 but they are totally lush. For easy to put together Mama style and great quality, I don’t think you can beat Joules. They do classic SO well and I love this simple little outfit that I’ve cobbled together. It is exactly what I would wear for my day to day style, on the school run and all that jazz.
Last but not least we have Fatface. This is a relatively new obsession of mine. I stumbled across Fatface about two years ago when I was looking for some holiday clothes for our trip to Devon. Fatface is another high street store that does classic style and simplicity really, really well. They kitted me out for my holiday and I’ve returned back to them time and time again since. They also do a really good line of kids clothes if you’re interested.
This time I’ve branched out into knee length boots for Autumn / Winter, which is on the adventurous side of things for me. I have avoided them for so long after a sales assistant in a swanky Kurt Geiger store had to pull a pair off of my fat calves before telling me with an element of pity in her skinny-calved voice that they were the widest size in store. Recently, after all my escapades at the gym I’ve decided to get back out there into the world of knee high boots and these are too beautiful not to try.
I’d better stop here before I bankrupt myself. There are lots of lovely things on the high street this Autumn / Winter but I must save my pennies for the much cuter clothes that I will be getting for the kids. I did do a little Primark shopping for a few basics, which I’ve filmed and stuck up on my YouTube channel. You can watch that here if you are as nosey as me 🙂
Let me know what you think of my Mama style for this season and what’s on your list too!
